AWARD FOR THE BEST TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN THE LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT COMPANIES
Today's technology was unthinkable fifty - sixty years ago.
But technology alone is not enough, we need a broader view.
(Rita Levi Montalcini, 1909 – 2012, Nobel Prize for Medicine 1986)
Best-Tech is a competition reserved for the Italian Local Public Transport companies, which aims to bring out, disclose and reward innovation, technological excellences and investments fielded in recent years by the LPT companies to improve the performances of the provided services. The submitted projects will be judged by a prestigious panel of judges, and the winners will be proclaimed in Milan within the event Citytech-BUStech, during the Institutional Plenary Session which will take place on Monday the 27th of October 2014 at the Castello Sforzesco.
A key element for the activity of a Country, the public transportation is the engine of its economic development, which can affect all macroeconomic variables, with a consequent impact on consumption, productivity (GDP) and employment. The White Paper on the Future of Transport, published by the European Commission in the 2011, outlined the guidelines for the sector's growth: by 2050, the European transport system must be sustainable, competitive, user-friendly, it will must reduce its dependence on oil, the congestion and the greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 60% compared to 1990 levels. Objectives to be achieved without affecting mobility.
To implement this vision, much has already been done, but we still need to invest in technological innovation, in new products and services, in new ways to produce, distribute and use them. Best-Tech intends to give voice to the multifaceted and varied universe of this sector.
There are two categories:
- Product innovation, namely the introduction of a new good or service
- Innovation System, namely the introduction of a new method of production or distribution
